Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ride Again

February 16, 2012

January, 2012 – Bloomington, Minn. – That’s right, the late 1980s hit characters are back, and they’re cooler than ever before. Reporter Tom Webb of the Pioneer Press recently published early details about Mall of America’s new ride – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shell Shock. Krech, O’Brien, Mueller & Associates served as the architect of record and provided structural engineering consultation and documentation for the project, which is set to open in late March.

Steve Iaria, KOMA’s lead architect on the project, said, “This was a really enjoyable assignment for our team. The many parties involved – including MOA, Nickelodeon,Forrec, Tivoli Too and PCL Construction – worked closely together in a highly collaborative manner to execute a complex project in a short time frame.”

While the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ride has garnered the most attention recently, another ride, the Dutchman’s Deck Anchor Drop, will open in March as well. For this project, KOMA worked to determine how to best support the overall structure and developed a look for the queuing area and several neighboring elements.
