Local 49 represents operating engineers who work as heavy-equipment operators, mechanics and surveyors. They provide instruction at their training facility for hazardous material handling procedures, paving applications, crane operation, excavation, forklift operation and heavy-duty highway-equipment operation. This 65,000-square-foot facility contains state-of-the-art training classrooms, eight large shop bays, a welding shop, two wash bays and a 30,000-square-foot enclosed area for winter training. The facility utilizes a geothermal field, heavy-duty ventilation systems and energy-recovery units for HVAC operation.
