May 2011 – Inver Grove Heights, Minn. – Nothing says springtime like blooming flowers and greening plants. And at Krech, O’Brien, Mueller & Associates, we like to think our work with our Inver Grove Heights neighbor Gertens is helping to bring just a little more color into the world.
KOMA has long worked with Gertens, the highly regarded garden center known for its trademark red roof and awning, and built on a “buy it from the grower” philosophy. KOMA assisted Gertens with one of its last major expansions by guiding the garden center through a process that included analyzing city codes and regulation; resolving issues related to water drainage, site-grade, and parking; and ultimately creating a colorful, light-filled design for its 30,000-square-foot retail greenhouse and nursery. Recently, KOMA again assisted Gertens with the planning approval process for its next proposed greenhouse expansion. Working closely with Gertens and civil engineer Loucks Associates, KOMA produced key documentation and early-phase conceptual design examples.
Project leader Jon LeNoble, Associate AIA, said, “It’s been a pleasure to work alongside Gertens and Loucks on this project. The expansion process has received city council approval and is progressing through its first phase. We’re excited about the progress we’ve made and eager to continue assisting Gertens with its long-range planning needs.”
