October, 2009 – Bloomington, MN – MagiQuest, a Mall of America attraction and project of Krech, O’Brien, Mueller & Associates, recently opened to the public amid rave reviews. Working closely with partner R2R Studio, KOMA provided structural engineering services and served as the architect of record for the new adventure complex.
MagiQuest blends video game-style electronics with medieval theming and live-action characters to create a real-life adventure for visitors. Gamers wield magic wands that trigger dozens of special effects around the complex, allowing them to digitally collect various fantasy objects and interact with on-screen characters and creatures.
KOMA structural engineers assisted with mounting and stabilizing the elaborate signage for the attraction, and the architecture work developed as a collaboration between R2R Studio and KOMA principal in charge, Brady Mueller, AIA.

Said Mueller, “Having the chance to work on a project like MagiQuest was a real treat. The fact that there are only a handful of attractions like this around the world made it appealing, and being able to be a part of a collaborative effort that yielded such an interactive, family-friendly exhibit made it all the better.”
Mueller continued, “Work like MagiQuest helps us to keep our creative energies up and helps us stay sharp. Some of the challenges that came up during the course of the project required us to stretch our thinking a bit, but ultimately the experience will make us better engineers and designers as we tackle the next project.”
